Culture on the Cards

Members of the Penzance and District Tourism Association are serious about looking into organising a culture week in Penzance.

This new event would ask all participating restaurants, cafe’s, bars, clubs and pubs to offer visitors dishes and drinks that originate or strongly represent a particular country.

Over the seven days each participating establishment would choose and celebrate a different country for the entire period and organisers hope those involved would ‘go-to-town’ on decorations and product offering.

Andrew Curtis, Chairman of the PDTA said “I think this is a great idea. It is something fresh and innovative; adding to the visitor’s experience in Penzance. I am happy to help organise such a great event and hope many businesses in Penzance embrace the thinking behind it”.

This initiative comes in light of proposals to increase events and festivals in the town, in an attempt to attract a higher footfall into Penzance.

Rebecca Farrington, owner of Poolside Indulgence added “I think it’s a great idea – the fact that bookings from abroad are up this year could mean many visitors are able to positively engage with our efforts; achieving added value and increasing the chances of them returning to Penzance in the future!”.

Autism Rainbow Day

The Penzance and District Tourism Association is asking it’s members to take part in this year’s Autism Rainbow Day awareness campaign. This is where businesses, schools and individuals are asked to wear different coloured t-shirts that represent the colours of the rainbow and to read an awareness sheet on  30th April 2010 (we will post an awareness  sheet on here just before the day).

For more information please go to Autism Rainbow Day’s Facebook Page

We will also start a collection and some fundraising activities to help charities and organisations in this particular field.

If you would like to get involved and help (particularly if you are in Penzance) please email: andy@visit-penzance.co.uk

Please support this good cause and raise awareness!
